About Us

Finding Inspiration in Nature

We are the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discovery Center Joint Powers Board- a dedicated organization that fosters a love for nature and folk arts, especially among children. Our mission is to engage and educate visitors to Hot Springs State Park- from our area and around the world- through hands-on experiences and creative activities that celebrate the beauty of the natural world. We are dedicated to our mission to build a visitor center and Children's Outdoor Learning Area at the entrance to Hot Springs State Park, where we will offer a visitor center, guided tours, nature trails, a children's outdoor learning area and workshops that connect our visitors with our heritage and the natural environment. Join us in exploring the wonders of nature and the rich traditions of our area.

Our Story

The board was formed in 2008 when a dedicated group of volunteers got the state to fund $100,000 to investigate the project. The group took the funding and did extensive research and planning to build the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discovery Center. They envisioned a visitor center and folk arts school combined with other amenities that are badly needed in the community. The board members have come and gone since that time, priorities have shifted, and we have experience some delays, but their original vision and dedication to the project remain.
